Yesterday John Kuiphoff and I met with Lois Gibbs at Center for Health Environment & Justice in Falls Church, VA, to kickoff development of the new Superfund data viz site (see post below for more info on that).
Lois is such an inspiration and the best possible partner for this work -- feeling lucky! She has been fighting for nearly 4 decades to protect all citizens from toxic contamination and make those responsible pay for real cleanup. It started for her in 1978 in her community, an event we now refer to as Love Canal. I interviewed her in 2007 -- you can watch the video to find out more. She spoke to us about her current battle to stop the underground fire at West Lake Landfill in St.Louis, across the highway from Ferguson.
